The Festival Staff accepts short film submissions of up to 25 minutes from all around the world with a focus on quality shorts, intelligent visions, experimentation and a strong authorial style.
The theme is “Journeys” of all kinds with total freedom of interpretation up to the filmmakers, directors and authors. Whether it’s a physical journey or an interior one, a journey to discover or rediscover, in the past or in the future, with hope or spirituality, all journeys are welcome. Since this year marks the 700 anniversary of Dante, “Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita...”, this festival combines all of the different cinematic and narrative possibilities under one theme: journeys.

The second edition of the festival will last for two days, involving meetings with authors, events, interviews, exhibitions and more. The prizes are awarded for the best short film, best director, best actress, best actor, best photography, best screenplay, best editing. There will be an audience award and mentions assigned by our media partners.

The Creator and Artistic Director of the Francigena Film Festival is the actor, author and director, Giovanni Guidelli. The jurors are among the best professionals of the Italian film industry, with the panel due to be announced in spring 2021. The jury for the first Francigena Film Festival was made up of Renato Carpentieri (Best Actor - David di Donatello Prize), Giuliano Taviani (Best Composer - David di Donatello Prize), Gianni Mammolotti (Cinematographer Award Finalist - David di Donatello) and Vincenzo Mosca (Film Distributor and Film Producer).

The first edition the festival (due to the Covid emergency and the fact that the theaters and cinemas were closed), it was held in a highly successful digital version: dozen of SHORT FILMS from all around the world has been free screened  ON LINE.

The Via Francigena is a historic route that contributed to the cultural unity of Europe in the Middle Ages. Today, the Via Francigena is considered as a bridge between the cultures of Anglo-Saxon Europe and Latin Europe. Given its historical importance, the committee decide to name the festival ‘Francigena’ in honour of the beautiful route.  Refreshments and accommodation are available in the area.

We wait for your story! Together we can!
