In the footsteps of the great cyclists

A hike to put yourself to the test by following the tracks of Gastone Nencini
by  Mugello

Along this cycling route we enter the heart of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and retrace roads crossed by many professionals, from Tuscany and beyond, starting from Gastone Nencini, winner of the Giro '57 and Tour '60, born precisely in Barberino di Mugello. The length of the route, 64,3 kilometers, is not disproportionate, but the double climb of the Passo della Futa (overall difference in level: 1,383 meters) requires a good level of preparation and an attitude to long climbs.

The descent from Panna to Galliano with the magnificent cypress avenue and Lake Bilancino in the background is beautiful. The road surface is generally fair and part of the route winds through the woods. This makes it possible to find refreshment on hot summer days, which, on the other hand, is the most recommended season for a hike in which you exceed 900 meters above sea level. For harder ramps, a 39/25 or compact equivalent is enough, but it is better to always use light ratios.
