Keith Haring returns to Pisa
From  12 Nov 2021  to  17 Apr 2022
The city pays tribute to the father of street art with an exhibition at Palazzo Blu

With his stylized men in movement, hearts, dogs, signs and, more generally, his brightly coloured and joyful works of art, Keith Haring is universally recognized as among the fathers of street art and a symbol of pop culture and art of the eighties. During his stay in Pisa in 1989, the American artist created one of his final great works: the famous mural titled Tuttomondo that can be found on a wall of the convent of San Antonio. The monumental painting occupies an area of 180 square meters and is a hymn to joy that's still considered his artistic testament today.

Now, Pisa pays homage to Keith Haring with an exhibition set up at Palazzo Blu, bringing a rich selection of over 170 works to Europe for the first time, coming from the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection, the personal collection of Kazuo Nakamura, that's located in the museum dedicated to the artist in Japan. It represents a unique opportunity to admire works that range from Haring's early works to his latest, with many complete series such as Apocalypse (1988), Flowers, (1990) and various other drawings and sculptures, as well as great works on canvas such as Untitled (1985) .

In fact, the exhibition traces Haring's entire artistic career and the wide range of expressive techniques he investigates - painting, drawing, sculpture, video, murals, public and commercial art - in addition to the many themes which his works explore that are committed to raising public awareness on nuclear energy, the negative aspects of the technological age, environmental protection, racism, drug use and prevention against AIDS.

"I am sitting on a balcony and looking at the top of the Leaning Tower. It is really very beautiful here. If there is a paradise, I hope it's like this" [Keith Haring]
