Every year on the last Sunday of May the hamlet of Scarperia gets colored by thousands of petals and leaves; the streets and the squares become canvas for stunning floral mosaics. These paintings are made with petals and leaves of thousands of flowers by locals.
In the main street Via Roma and in Piazza dei Vicari and Piazza Classio, from Saturday night local people start working on the mosaics all together so that from Sunday morning you can admire these beautiful creations. The theme is different every year and the same for all the floral paintings, that are visible and can be pictured all day.
HOW THE FLORAL MOSAICS ARE MADE
Infiorata is an event created by locals of all ages and starts quite some time before, when the main theme is decided and the designs sketched on paper. The day before the designs are sketched with chalks on the street and in the squares; the night before the petals and leaves of flowers, mainly carnations, are removed and divided by colors. On Sunday morning the petals are patiently glued to create the mosaics.
For all day the main street and squares of the hamlet of Scarperia are covered with beautiful floral carpets that create impressive colorful mosaics.
