Micciano and the Adio valley

hiking
Tours

Wild and spectacular trail of 10 kilometers in the lesser-known Val di Cecina, north of the Monterufoli forest

Micciano, originally a medieval castle perched like an eagle's nest on the red cliff of red gabbro, locally called "Pinzo", is a magnetic and unusual place from which we will start this adventurous excursion. Exciting experiences await us among steep valleys and stunning panoramas, old sulfur mines, colorful rocks, waterfalls, and colorful minerals.

After admiring the panorama from the cliffs, we will descend into the Adio Valley along an old trail, reaching the stream. We will pass by the site of the ancient sulfur mine of Libbiano, a rare testimony to the exploitation of surface sulfur deposits in the area, until we reach the Fosso Cupo, where we will find the characteristic potholes called "Tre Conchini".

Once we reach the confluence with the Adio, we will head towards the spectacular waterfall of Acqua Alta, about 10 meters high. We will then ascend a stretch of the stream, crossing large serpentinite rocks to reach the water well called "Pelago a Martello". Climbing the slope, we will reach a beautiful panoramic point on a rocky spur and finally arrive at the sulfur spring, a site of considerable geological interest where we will admire the intense colors of various mineralizations.

We will conclude an experience full of fun, wonder, and a pinch of adventure.

The tour will take place on Sunday, June 16, 2024, starting at 9:30 am.
