Discover a rare example of Mediterranean vegetation

On the slopes of the Monti Pisani, between Monte Cucco and the Bosco di Tanali reserve, there is a protected area to safeguard a biotope of a relict stand of pino laricio, or Coriscan pine. Corsican pine is among the tallest and most majestic wild pine trees, reaching up to 50 meters in height. This site offers a rare example, as this special pine is only found in limited numbers in some areas of the Mediterranean. The surrounding vegetation is composed of maritime pine, acacia, chestnut, oak, rowan, and laurel.

This natural reserve boasts exceptional biogeographic value because it includes relict specimens of past glacial epochs. Thanks to the particular conditions of fresh and wet habitats, their presence remains even in post-glacial times. Due to the abundant springs also found here, there is a significant presence of flora and amphibians, and dippers are known to nest here.
