The production of Monte Amiata’s typical products, like chestnuts and olive oil, is also on display

The Musem of Vines and Wine in Montenero d’Orcia, in the municipality of Castel del Piano, is located in an annex of the large farmhouse that belonged to the Avanzati family in Montenero d’Orcia sino until the 1950s.

The exhibition includes panels with images that illustrate the wine culture and traditional objects for viticulture and winemaking. Inside the museum, visitors can find information about two of Monte Amiata’s most important typical products, chestnuts and extra-virgin olive oil.

The pigiauva is particularly interesting, a winepress dating to the 1700s that was found in the countryside around Petricci (in the municipality of Semproniano), complete with the original press plate, levers and gratings that were used to crush the grapes until 1910.
