Houses over one hundred works of sacred art

The Parish Church of San Giuliano in Castiglion Fiorentino, commonly called "Pieve vecchia" after the construction of the adjacent Collegiate Church, has been home to a vast exhibition of sacred art since 2006 and boasts more than one hundred works from various castiglionese sacred buildings. It's known as the Museo della Pieve of San Giuliano.

In the main hall we can admire, among others, the processional statue of the Madonna della Cintola and the Madonna of Petrognano, a 13th century polychrome wooden sculpture. In the Chapel of the Choir, where the main altar of the parish church was originally located, two processional statues that are very dear to the Castiglionesi are exhibited, the Christ at the column and the Risen Christ, both carved by Niccolò di Smeraldo Salvi and carried in procession during the rituals of Holy week.

In the Chapel of the Sacrament, you can see a 15th century glazed terracotta, the Baptism of Jesus, perhaps made by the workshop of Andrea della Robbia. On the right side of the same chapel is one of the most important works of the museum, the Lamentation over the Dead Christ by Luca Signorelli, datable to the early 16th century.
