A permanent exhibition of geological and paleontological objects collected by passionate volunteers

The GAMPS geo-paleontological collection is located in Scandicci and was created thanks to hard work of passionate volunteers who have recovered many of its objects over the years. The museum is housed in the former school of the Badia a Settimo, today the “Ofelia Mangini” Civic Centre.

Some of the objects conserved in the museum include paleontological pieces, discovered by GAMPS volunteers, and a collection of minerals donated by the Pellegatta family. There are also animal remains, like dolphins and whales, as well as mammoths, sharks and many fossils.

One particularly prized object dates to the era of Pliocene mysticetes, a whale nine metres in length that was discovered in Castelfiorentino. It is the most intact whale’s skeleton ever found in Europe and a one-of-a-kind object related to the species.
