Landscape Museum in Castelnuovo Berardenga
A museum itinerary offering a reflection on the connection between man and environment

The Landscape Museum in Castelnuovo Berardenga, housed in a late 19th-century building which used to function as a public slaughterhouse, is unique in its kind as it doesn’t use artworks as its central theme nor tangible objects, but rather an idea.

Throughout the museum visit, a line of reasoning is offered which reflects on the various meanings attributed to the word “landscape,” allowing the visitor to ponder at the transformation of the world and how man is or can be linked to the world itself.

The exhibition makes use of single landscape cases, chosen among those of particular significance within a determined phenomenon, and with a prevalence, while not exclusively, of sections of Siena’s surrounding lands: the province therefore becomes an opportunity for a universal discussion.

The museum includes an archaeological section with artefacts from the 12th century BCE onward, discovered in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in particular from the necropolis of Bosco Le Pici, among which are the grave goods of some tombs and a gravestone with Etruscan inscriptions.
