Historical Park of the Gothic Line in Badia Tedalda
Ten itineraries on foot and three by bike through history and nature

The Gothic Line was all the defense systems that the German troops built in 1944 along the Central Apennines to block the advancing Allies: today it is an essential part of the “sites of memory” and a commemorative aspect of the war and the Resistance. In the territory of Badia Tedalda, in Valtiberina, you can find the “heart” of the Gothic Line, because this territory was considered strategic for the Germans.

This important historic patrimony, studied with attention and mapped out, is today available to visitors thanks to the Historical Park of the Gothic Line, a series of itineraries linking the places of major interest spread throughout the intact and evocative territory, thus encouraging a journey of memories.

In the park, ten itineraries on foot and three on bike have been selected, all of which are adequately marked and equipped by explanatory panels that illustrate the characteristics of the fortifications and the history of the period. Guided visits, excursions and didactic workshops for schools are available upon reservation.

Furthermore, at the Alpe della Luna Vistors’ Centre in Badia Tedalda, you can visit the “Documentation Centre of the Gothic Line,” a multimedia space that presents the public with the history, events, places and key figures in the war and the Resistance, with oral and iconographic testimonies that reconstruct “fragments of everyday life” of 20th-century generations.
