The Romanesque-style building was erected by Bishop Ildebrando in 1186

The Parish Church of Saint Filippo and Saint Giacomo is located in Montecastelli Pisano, a small village outside Castelnuovo Val di Cecina. It was erected by the bishop Ildebrando in 1186. The salient facade has a wall face of squared ashlars and in the central part three large arches: the outer ones are blind and the inner one frames the doorway.

A very simple eye surmounts the central structure while the interior has a nave and two aisles divided by pillars with figurative capitals; on the side of the right aisle there is a pointed-arched window with lintel where a hunting scene is carved; also on the right side of the church is the bell tower with a square base. A recent restoration revealed some elements from the Romanesque era.

Nearby stands the Buca delle Fate, an Etruscan hypogeum from the 6th century B.C., small-sized but well preserved.
