In the municipality of Manciano, just a few kilometres from the village of Saturnia, springs of sulphuric waters form large ponds with a temperature of 37.5° C, creating free and open-air thermal “pools”.
The main thermal waterfalls are the Cascate del Mulino, located on the grounds of an old mill, and the Cascate del Gorello. The large basin above the waterfall bestows a dreamlike atmosphere, especially enjoyable in the evening. Access to the pools is public and free throughout the year. Don’t be afraid to dive in even in the frigid winter season: you won’t feel cold and you’ll be sure to enjoy a picture-perfect natural landscape. For those who prefer comfort, there are also several thermal resorts.
How to get to Saturnia: from Rome, take the Autostrada Roma-Civitavecchia until the end; continue straight on S.S.1 Aurelia; once past Montalto di Castro, pay close attention, as shortly after, at exactly km. 111 (Hotel Vulci), you will need to turn right and follow the sign for Manciano. After passing Montemerano, you’ll arrive in Saturnia after about 60 km. From the North: Autostrada Milano - Bologna – Firenze; exit at Firenze Certosa, take the highway from Siena to Grosseto; exit at Roselle (around 10 km before Grosseto) and follow the signs for Scansano and then Saturnia.
