A gallery and contemporary art centre in San Giovanni Valdarno

Casa Masaccio in San Giovanni Valdarno is a centre dedicated to contemporary art located in the place where, according to archivist research by professor Ugo Procaccio, Masaccio spent a large part of his childhood, although it is not his proven birthplace. The building was bought by the municipality at the start of the 1960s, restructured in the 70s and is now used for exhibitions.

In the museum, you can admire the extensive permanent collection belonging to the Municipality of San Giovanni Valdarno, which has been built up over time thanks to the donations of contemporary artists and consists of works by Alighiero Boetti, Alberto Moretti, Giovanni Anselmo, Alberto Garutti, Venturino Venturi, Mauro Staccioli, Marco Airò and Massimo Bartolini.

Casa Masaccio has also become home to temporary exhibitions, exploring the emergences of Italian and European contemporary art, and it offers a thorough program of conferences, workshops, cinema showings and concerts.
