A rich collection of artifacts that tells the history of Versilia

The "Bruno Antonucci" Archeological Museum of Versilia in Pietrasanta has been located in Palazzo Moroni in piazza del Duomo since it was founded, first as a storehouse and later as an exhibition open to the public.

The core of the museum’s collection comes comprises artefacts discovered during excavations in the area that were carried out by the Gruppo Speleologico e Archeologico Versiliese starting in the 1960s, led by Prof. Bruno Antonucci in collaboration with the Archeology Superintendence and the University of Pisa. The artefacts were discovered exclusively in Versilia and they range from Prehistory to the Middle Ages.

The collection includes several sections: Paleontologic, which conserves animal remains dating to the Upper Paleolithic; Prehistoric, with human bones, arrowheads, knives and other lithic industries, crockery and pendants made from bone; Etruscan and Ligurian, considered the most important section and comprising a collection of Etruscan funerary stones, some tombs and other impressive traces of the settlements established by these civilizations in the area, including crockery, accessories and work tools; and Roman and medieval, which conserves various pieces such as amphorae, ceramics, glass, work tools, tombs, funerary goods and coins.
